SVOSH volunteers at the Illumination Foundation Vision Screening
14 SVOSH members and SCCO students helped refract as many as 50 patients in 3 hours at the Illumination Foundation's vision screening at the Fullerton Armory Homeless Shelter. The event was a great success for patients in need and an excellent skill-builder for our SVOSH members. The second-year volunteers were in charge of 2 of the 6 refracting lanes.

SVOSH trip to El Salvador, November, 2010
7 SVOSH members and VOSH doctors teamed with a non-profit organization in El Salvador, FUDEM, to provide eye care services to five villages in five days throughout the country. A total of 1,672 patients were screened and 1,621 patients were refracted on portable phoropters. 145 patients received reading glasses and 848 patients were given prescriptions for single vision, multifocal and bifocal glasses which FUDEM later dispensed. Amazing!

SVOSH @ SCCO's World Sight Day field-day fundraiser, October 14, 2010
SVOSH took Optometry Giving Sight's World Sight Day Challenge to heart! This year, for the first time ever, SVOSH @ SCCO set up a fair with games and a raffle during the first and second year's lunch. Games included: guess the number of candies in the jar, trivia, hand neutralization, ball-n-cup game and two bean bag tosses! For just $1 a game, students were able to donate money to Optometry Giving Sight, which will donate the money to improve and supply vision services to countries that do not have them.
